Bird's Eye and Curly Maple are the woods of choice for the forearm of the Black Boar cue, not only for their beauty, but also for their inherent low resonant pitch. Woods with a low resonant pitch increase the cue's contact time with the ball. The difficulty is that Bird’s Eye Maple is one of the most unstable woods in existence. After much experimentation, coring the forearm and sleeving it onto a one-piece inner core is the only technique that met Tony’s standards. In recent years, much of the cue industry has adopted this practice. Black Boar cues have been produced this way since 1991.
