The finish used on a Black Boar cue is a Labor of Love! The cue is drenched in a water thin epoxy, wetting its fibers and embellishing the colors. This is not to be confused with coating a cue with epoxy - no epoxy is left on the cue, only in the cue.
There are 9 coats of a 3-part urethane applied over 6 days, totaling only about .0025” of overall thickness. After the urethane has cured, the cue is wet sanded and buffed to a final finish. The true beauty behind this technique is the fact that the epoxy treatment and the urethane finish form both a chemical and a mechanical bond, resulting in a finish of incomparable integrity.
